In the previous blog, I discussed the idea that therapy is not just for crises. Undoubtedly, when someone mentions they go to therapy, they often encounter the question of "why?" Well, people go to therapy for a myriad of reasons. Here are some:
Anxiety and depression
Stress from work, school, or family
Grief and loss
Relationship struggles
Trauma or abuse
A desire to understand themselves better
Therapy isn't a quick fix. Progress might look like:
Feeling less overwhelmed
Handling conflict more calmly
Gaining insight into your emotions and behaviors
Feeling more connected to yourself and others
Some changes are subtle but powerful—like learning to engage in positive self-talk and setting boundaries in relationships.
Therapy is not "just talking." If it were, everyone would be qualified to do it! It goes beyond the words being said. It’s not about being “fixed” or judged or given advice. It’s about being heard, understood, and supported as you work through challenges at your own pace.
Choosing to go to therapy is a brave and personal decision. It’s a sign of strength, not weakness.-Dr. B
