The summer of therapy

Summer is often seen as a season of relaxation, travel, and sunlight. But in between the beach days (west coast beaches for the win) and barbeques, it is the perfect environment to begin or deepen your therapy journey.
Here’s why starting therapy in the summer is a good idea:
1. A Natural Reset
Summer marks a shift — especially for those in the education field. in routines, school schedules, and even how we spend our time. This natural transition can create space for reflection and more time to devote to mental health management.
2. More Daylight, More Energy
Longer days and increased sunlight have a real impact on our mood. With better weather and improved energy levels, you may find it easier to process emotions, develop healthy habits, and stay motivated with personal growth work.
3. Flexible Schedules
For students, teachers, and many professionals, summer offers a break or a lighter schedule. That flexibility makes it easier to commit to weekly sessions, try new therapeutic approaches, or even participate in more intensive work if needed.
4. Building Resilience Before Fall
Fall is often a time of increased pressure — school, work, shorter days, and the approach of the holiday season. Starting therapy in the summer helps you build emotional tools in advance, rather than reacting when things get stressful later in the year.
5. A Chance to Explore in Nature
If you're interested in more experiential or holistic therapies — like walk-and-talk therapy, mindfulness in nature, or outdoor sessions — summer makes these options more accessible and enjoyable; at least on the days when there isn’t sweltering heat.
6. Emotional Contrast
Ironically, the brightness of summer can highlight what we’re struggling with inside. If you’re feeling low even during the “happiest time of year,” that contrast can be a powerful signal that it’s time to seek support.
Final Thoughts
The perfect time to start therapy is now. But, it’s also ok to put it on your to-do list for the summer.
