Dr. Rashanta Bledman, Ph.D. (she/her/hers)

I am a licensed Psychologist in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.  I am PsyPact certified through the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards.

As a multicultural psychologist, I provide individual and group therapy to adults hoping to better understand themselves and their unique experiences. I use a collaborative approach to highlight strength and resilience while assisting clients in learning to manage

  • depression,

  • anxiety,

  • body image dissatisfaction,

  • eating disorders

  • racial trauma, and

  • interpersonal relationship difficulties.

I have particular expertise in working with sexual assault survivors and helping navigate through the healing process.I have training and expertise in working with

  • diverse populations

  • women's issues

  • religion/spirituality

  • racial/ethnic identity

  • sexual orientation identity development,

  • queer issues

  • gender identity.

I value empowerment and validation and aim to use a culturally aware approach that provides a safe environment to explore and understand emotions and patterns of behavior. My clinical work is not only influenced by empirical research, but also by my experiences as a first-generation, Black/Caribbean-American woman.

I bring warmth, genuineness, empathy, sincerity and humor to my clinical interactions. I believe we benefit from a welcoming place of acceptance and non-judgment, and I strive to provide this for all clients. I value all aspects of identity and work to ensure a safe and multiculturally competent space.

I received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZZOU).  My research and collaborations have been published in the Handbook of Counseling Psychology and several psychological journals, including the Journal of Black Psychology.  My practice and scholarship have been recognized by The American Psychological Association and the University of Maryland President's Commission on Women's Issues.
